Ben Shelley: Weekly Recap: Kings Edition (April 26)

Thanks! Living up the coast in BC, I dont get much chance to see Kings games, but it was nice to be able to watch the Kings/Ducks game last night. Wish i was able to watch the debut of Byfield when it happens.. but when it does happen, i will tune in to Kings radio!

This site's messaging and notifications system is really awful. I just checked my messages and found one from 2.5 years ago that I never saw. Only_A_Ladd, if you see this, I just now replied to you. Haha. Better late than never. I can't say the same for the spam that I received with the link to a sex dating site, though. Unfortunately, the link is now dead. If only I had checked my messages sooner!

I would rather see byfield stay on taxi squad to make him really hungry for next yr.

I don't think he needs that kind of incentive. The amount of sh*t he's taken on the internet already for being a bust probably fuels his fire. Even if he hasn't noticed that, he's been focused on this moment his entire career. He's going to come out flying. I'm more concerned with him losing confidence if he tries to do too much during his first few games.

Hes gonna be one hell of a player.i believe he was very misused in the world jrs tourney,that's on the coach not on him.he performed well in the minutes he got.
To be tabbed a "bust" is a bit of a stretch if you ask me.lets see what he does in the same amount of games as the other 2 have played.that could be an interesting fact to look at in the future.

Agree. From what I saw at the WJC, he was playing a third line role. He forechecked really well and dug pucks of of corners. He consistently got to the net on offense. Aside from the game against Switzerland, he didn't get too many points but I don't think it mattered given his usage.

I don't think he's a bust but there certainly was a lot of chatter that he looked to be one, especially relative to the performance of Stutzle so far. Byfield really seemed to settle in on Ontario and his numbers looked good after a slow start. He's 18 1/2. I don't know what people were expecting who've criticized him. I didn't see one prospect guru call him generational or a certain, day 1 starter in the NHL. Instead, i saw a lot of those gurus call him a project with a high ceiling.

Anyway, we'll see him soon enough. I'm excited.

100% agree,he was used as a 3rd liner and performed very well in those minutes.best 2way center on that team and he played 3rd line???still makes me shake my head and wonder if he was used more would canada have won that gold medal game.zegras was on fire except when they matched him against byfieldbut they kept him on the bench for much of the 3rd.shaking my head writing this lol.
Also Kopi wasnt dubbed generational either,but I wouldnt trade him for anything,I'm hoping byfield falls into that same mould.hope he does come out firing,I think him and turcotte will be our 1-2 punch for a long time.exciting times ahead
